Fight Gone Bad 2007

We are fast approaching September 29th which is the date for the second annual Fight Gone Bad Crossfit Fundraiser. Teaming up with Athletes for a Cure, Crossfitters all across the country will be taking part in this Fundraiser in order to raise money towards finding a cure for Prostate Cancer. The Workout is one of those that anybody who takes part in is sure never to forget. My first time doing it was last year in Austin. I thought I was in decent shape, but after I got about halfway into this workout, I realized that I was simply just not Crossfit. Elite fit individuals score in the 320 to 350 range. That is my goal this year. This would be an improvement for me of about 130. I'm really setting the bar high for myself because I do want to become a top notch Crossfitter.

Please show your support and help us fundraise. Each person who participates needs only to raise $150. You can registrar at Athletesforacure.org to join us at Whole Foods at 5th and Lamar for the big event or you can donate any amount to the cause and sponcer those who would like to participate.

1 Year Gone

It's hard to believe that I moved here a year ago. The way time goes by is amazing and every time I think back I realize more and more how precious and valuable my time is. There is leaps and bounds of difference in my life today compared to when I first moved the this gorgeous city. I am so grateful that I didn't let my fear of change or what I was moving away from stop me from coming. I don't even consider those things anymore and every time I am driving around this town I think about all the things that I can do around here. I am so inspired by this city and especially the people who live in it. I don't know how many people experience these kind of feelings, buy a good friend of mine and I were hanging out the other night discussing how awesome it is to be able to go to places like Whole Foods. This city has so much to offer and I'm eager to get in where I fit in. I'm sure I will be saying the same thing at this time next year.

Who Your Boys Are

You know how when you grow up, you make connections with people and become great friends with them? I think that no matter how many additional friends you make throughout a lifetime, the ones that you grew up around always seem to be the ones you care about the most. Jeremy and Zac have known each other and been best friends for most of their lives. I met them both when I was 14 years old and have been very connected with them ever since. Zac moved and started CrossFitting with us here in Austin less than 2 months ago. I have to say that that the feeling of being connected with your true longtime friends, is still a great thing. I love the fact that I'm able to be around both these individuals while still doing what I love to do around at the gym. Welcome back Zac, it's great to have you around as one of the Crossfit brothers and thanks Jeremy for making this possible.

Back 2 Back

Saturday Events at the gym don't happen as often as I'd like. These tend to be a lot of fun for all the trainers and everybody who comes out to participate. The last 2 weekends however we were able come up with enough time and energy to get some amazing things accomplished. On the 11th, over 30 people showed up to put themselves through the infamous and brutal "300 Challenge" workout that has opened up a lot of awareness across the country for CrossFit Training. This was an awesome day because it gave people a chance to challenge themselves like never before and experience the motivation that comes with working out with more people trying just as hard to get through it.

Yesterday on the 18th, Jeremy and I hosted an Olympic Weightlifting seminar. All Crossfitters need to be more informed about these movements simply because the more technically sound they are done, the better used they become for improving several of the 10 skills of fitness. I'm grateful for the knowledge I’ve received though Crossfit on these movements but more importantly to Coach Burgener for sharing so much of his immense knowledge with me at the USA Certification back in November.

Thanks all who came out to both these events and I can't wait for Fight Gone Bad!
Hope to see you all there!

Austin's Fittest

We are taking the claim to be the fittest people in Austin and are willing to back it up. Our 12:15 pm class work's out at the hottest period of the day. People don't even like going outside at this hour sometimes and we are taking it head on and saying bring it. The weather may bend us, but it cannot break us. If you think you're fit, take some time to join us for this workout so that we all can really know if you can truly hang. Jeremy, Zac and myself are are taking the Crossfit Challenge to prove that we are among the "Sic Fit" people in Austin.

Speed

I think a lot of time in Crossfit we tend to forget one of our key components to which is Speed. I know that many of our workouts are "for time" and we try to get the workout done as fast as possible. I believe we should work more on quick burst speed like 10 to 20 meter sprints so that our bodies can be prepared to get from A to B as fast as possible no matter how far away it is. Just like when we do 10 sets of 1 for increasing strength, these quick sprints will enable our bodies to develop a whole new muscle contraction that 400 and 800 meter runs cannot.

Back in the Gym

There is something about being back in the gym here at Crossfit Central. Maybe it's just that I missed Austin and all of its natural beauty. Being from West Texas, I am still in awe of this amazing city. Coming back though, getting back to CrossFit; this is truly rejuvenating for me. I know that every single one of our clients that comes to the gym is energized and excited to be there. That makes my job so much simpler. Thanks Austin. You people have some amazing qualities and I'm grateful to be about of it. I'm pumped to be back and I'm ready to help make sure this city rises to The Fittest in the entire country.

Leaving it all out there!

Raising the bar for ourselves seems to be a constant challenge that we will continuously have to do. All I know is that if you aren't constantly giving it your all in whatever you do, there is very little to no chance for improvement. While I was in Midland, I was constantly faced with overcoming levels of fatigue that tested my abilities to be good teacher and mentor for all the young athletes I worked with. Crossfit has really reminded me that I am always able to keep pushing myself beyond the limits that I’ve already reached so that I can continue to improve these abilities. We all can do things better than what we currently do if we stay focused and continue to push through the temporary suffering we must go through for improvement. When you give your all, you know you gave your all.
