MAY 2012
Hey Crew!
Most of you know
by now that I love the heat. The past 2 weeks have made me so happy to be
sweating and feeling the sun’s rays coming down. I am so ready for the temps to
be in the 100’s again. We live in Texas right? The weather should always be
this way as far as I’m concerned. That being said…I cannot stress enough the
importance of hydration! This is especially true for any of you who consume
coffee or alcohol.
Obviously water
is key, but really our bodies need electrolytes often! If you haven’t started
supplementing with electrolytes yet…you are way behind! For me, coconut water
(not from concentrate) and NUUN tablets are both products I use often to keep
my body in a state of hydration that keeps me going. Please make it a point to
do this as well!
Summer training
is much more difficult and we all need to be on point about how we approach
this time of the year!

Athlete of the
Month: Russ
Since coming
into the gym, Russ has continued to exceed himself in every way possible. I
have to give him all the credit in the world, and in many ways I am not even
sure how he is able to do what he does. I see Russ at CrossFit Central and Red
Black Gym often 6 days a week. Training Monday through Saturday is something
not very many people can or should do. All this tells me is this guy is doing
everything else right! Sleep, nutrition, mobilization and probably prayer are
keeping this man going strong daily. Read more on my

APRIL 2012
Welcome to April
Gang!
Most of you
(aside for those who just started within the past week or two) got to
experience the 2012 CrossFit Games Open. It is now officially over and CrossFit
Central's coaches are ranked #2 in the South Central Region. Equally as cool, our clients who signed
up for the Open achieved a ranking of 58 out of 135 teams. I am both proud and impressed by this!
I have been an
athlete all of my life. It all started at 3 and 4 years old with Soccer and
T-Ball. When I got older, Power Lifting and Football wrapped up my high school
years. I was even fortunate enough to play a year of college football before
injuries become too unmanageable.
The desire to
compete never left me, so when I found CrossFit at 23 years old I was all in!
Some of you have similar experiences, but some of you I know do not. Either
way, it isn't relevant. I'm almost
certain none of us will be pro CrossFitters in our near future. We do, however, have the option to
challenge/compete against ourselves.
I heard once
that all that matters is that we aim to be the best version of ourselves. If
that is true...wouldn't you say you might be able to improve just a little bit
today?

Laurie's story
represents one of the true essences of CrossFit's ability impact a person's
lifestyle at a deep and meaningful level. Watching her get out of her comfort
zone has been remarkable. I am proud to see this woman take on a program like
CrossFit after spending her whole life prior to it without ever taking on
physical challenges or being an athlete. She has found a new self through the
experience. Seeing how her success has inspired her husband to join us a year later
speaks volumes for how much Laurie is truly a positive model for her family,
friends and anyone else she comes across on a daily basis! Read more on my

MARCH 2012
Results are earned not given.
I constantly remind myself of this because sometimes I just don’t feel like doing the work necessary to get myself to the next level. This is true in my life and in my work. I view this state of mind as a switch to turn on or off.
After talking David Deleon into doing sprints with me a couple days ago down Burnet Road, I said something to him afterward that expresses the way I hope to always approach life: “Going hard every day in life...What else is there?”
You see…we expect more out of ourselves than anyone else can expect from us. I find that being diligent about the effort you give in life is the only thing that can bring you reward and true satisfaction. I’ve achieved so many things I set out for and I continue to set new goals for myself.
I think it is in all of us to see more positive life-impacting changes occur for ourselves and those around us by our willingness to aim higher and work fearlessly. I am convinced that this world needs inspiration for change. I choose to live my life in a way that represents the change I hope to see in the world!
I want to say Mahatma Gandhi said that once…Wow! I got some work to do.

Athlete of the Month: Dru
This month I picked a client who makes me proud to train him. Everything I have to teach is something Dru craves as a client. He is an achiever and he seeks out mentors/coaches to get him where he wants to go. If there is something you know that he doesn't, he will find you and get you to teach it to him. I haven't seen many people excel to the level that Dru has in a shorter amount of time. Ambitious, Hungry and Humble are rare qualities but this guy has them. Read more on my blog.
Recent Blog Post: Being Uncomfortable is a Must!
Day in, day out...life goes on. The world keeps turning every day, and we all have the ability to choose what our role is going to be in it. We typically choose to do the things we are most adapted to. We almost never pick something that is completely outside of the ordinary. Overall, we tend to stay inside of our comfort zones each day. As much as it may seem like the natural thing to do, I am here to say that this is truly unacceptable. Read more here.

FEBRUARY 2012
Hey there young’ns:
It is always hard to believe how fast a month can go by on you, isn’t it? January always starts off on such a high note. My hope is that all of you are continuing to ride that note daily!
Obviously I understand that sometimes life may not always be going the way you would like. This is when I really like to remind myself of my purpose. Most of you know I am a believer in the Christian Faith, and it is through my church that I seek out peace of mind and humility. This helps me get very clear about why I’m here, what I would like to do, and who am I doing this with.
I want to share with you all a gift I received from a close friend last week. She had been meaning to give it to me for Christmas, but we were only able to link up 1 week ago. I haven’t worn a necklace of any sort since 8th grade, but I have been inspired to have this on every day since receiving it! On it the word “SOUL” is carved into the dog tag. This definitely ranks up with the Best Gifts Ever!
I believe every religion has a belief about what a soul is, what our soul actually does while we are living, and what happens to it when we pass. After a Google search of “What is Soul” there are countless directions we could go to the point of no end. I did however find this layman’s description that I really enjoyed:
“With the introduction of the soul, the body acquires life, sight and hearing, thought and speech, intelligence and emotions, will and desire, personality and identity.” – ChaBad.org
When I wake up every morning my soul moves me before my mind thinks. This is a connection to my Creator and it is what continues to allow me to see life in a brand new light each and every day!

JANUARY 2012
Back on the Grind!
We aren't talking coffee folks...This year is straight up getting back to the hustler spirit you forgot you once had! Think back to yourself as a young soul...can't you remember how bad you wanted something? Remember before things were just so convenient and at your fingertips how badly you would've worked to achieve something you couldn't have at that moment?
A young man's mentality is what I want to get back for myself. One thing I noticed in my 2011 year, even though it was so great for me, was that I was becoming so complacent. I no longer challenged myself like I did when I was 23 to 27 years old. I became Successful! Work became too easy and I didn't give it the attention I once did.
When CrossFit Central was a baby, all I wanted to do was Train, Blog, Email, Research, Travel, and Inspire. I wanted to prove CrossFit's value and CrossFit Central's ability to uplift everybody who was introduced to us. I was willing to do everything I possibly could to bring value to others and our company. Since then, I stopped putting others first and let my own wants and selfish unfulfilling desires consume me.
At CrossFit Central we had our company meeting for the new year was last Friday. We were asked to come back with our 2012 Motto. Over the Christmas break, my mind kept going to this thought and "Whatever it Takes!" came from my days as a High School football player. This has a strong and driving-forward meaning to me. I lost it for a while. Now I have it back. You all will experience this from me first-hand and I will ask it from you this year!
If you see this hashtag #WIT on Twitter and Facebook you will know what I'm talking about!
I want to share with you all my Core Values...You have the right to make sure I am staying accountable to them:
1) With God's guidance there is nothing I can't do!
2) Be for others in all that I do!
3) Be open to changing my mind when it is needed
4) Be true at heart
5) Maintain integrity

DECEMBER 2011
The End is Near
Only the end of the year! I’ve been talking about the fact that we have only 4 weeks remaining until Christmas Break. Holidays are great – Fact! Family, friends and food are a must. I challenge you to also keep your health a priority. Balance is key to our lives. It would be great to put off all focus and goals until January and do whatever we want during the holiday season. The problem with this philosophy is that it flat out doesn’t work!
Colds and flu exist more during this time of year primarily for one reason…the excessive amounts of food (especially sweets) and alcohol we put in our bodies typically forces them into a state that is more susceptible to viruses creeping in! In a sense, we choose to let our bodies receive these types of funk.
Remember: Greens are still a priority! They help keep the body alkalized, which means less acidic. Disease and viruses cannot survive very well in non-toxic environments!
Read this for more insight into why you want to stay alkaline over acidic pH balance

Personal Training Opportunities:
Weekly Private Training
I currently do private training on Tuesday and Saturday mornings. Currently about 12 clients are adding one of these days in addition to classes they take at the gym. I have seen exponential improvements from the clients who are doing this in strength and skill, speed and power over clients who do not! Most of them have been highlighted on my blog because of their results in gaining lean muscle mass and cutting body fat.
Holiday Private Training
I have opened my schedule for pre- and post-Christmas private training as well. You can commit to 1 session or multiple sessions all at the cost of small group training rates! This is a great option for anyone wanting private focus and instruction minus the more expensive rates of 1 on 1 training!
Please email Chris Gaussiran at chris.gaussiran@gmail.com for scheduling and rate options if you are interested in either weekly or holiday private training!
AdvoCare Product Spotlight – Arginine Extreme
This is one of my favorites! A pre-workout fuel designed to increase the blood flow to the muscle and aid in increasing your body’s ability to do work! Try it and see what it does for you!

NOVEMBER 2011
Wow!
What a month it has been…My life has never been about traveling much, but October called for a change of pace in my life with trips to Connecticut and New Jersey! I even went and spent a day in the Big Apple! I remember thinking not too long ago that trips like that were things I would probably never do. That just goes to show that any preconceived notions you set on yourself will always hold you back from doing things that you could be up to!
I am opening the doors to possibility in my life! I want to see that if I believe something out there is for me in my mind, then it should also be for me in my reality! I believe this has something to do with the law of intention. If you can see it, you can believe it, and if you believe it, you can do it!
People in my life constantly remind me of the 1 percent! Not everyone embraces this philosophy that all things are possible, and I am the first to admit to being a person who keeps limitations set on myself. What I do know is that when I am willing to unscrew the lid off to open myself up, I end up being places and doing things that were once “Not Possible.”
Next week I am traveling to Los Angeles to see one of my favorite life coaches for a 4 day seminar! I have been learning from Tony Robbins for a few years now. He has helped me greatly along my path and this trip will be nothing short of Life Changing!
Enjoy his message! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Af4QLc2vhs

AdvoCare Product Spotlight – Probiotic Restore
Sometimes digesting food can be more trouble than it should be! Sometimes having a healthy digestive function isn’t as easy as it could be! I will never forget Jeremy asking me a couple years ago if I was currently using Restore. I wasn’t and all he could say was “Why wouldn’t you be taking in good microflora?” All I could say was “Yeah, I know…I need to be on it!” I have been since.

OCTOBER 2011
October is here… Boom!
You’ve probably heard me say that October is the best month of the year. I mean, it’s my birthday month y’know. This year it is especially great because I will be 30 (yes, I fully believe the new 20) and primed to be the best year of my life!
I feel like they just keep getting better and honestly believe it should be the same for you! Obviously, we are not kids anymore, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have more fun. If anything is holding you back from having this mindset, all I have to say is this… get out of your head!
Life cannot always be so serious because, if it is, it would be impossible to have fun. I don’t believe any of you are too uptight, but I know that you can all find ways to have more fun! Get on your bike, leave work early and go jump in Barton Springs, call up your classmate on a Friday night and go drink a Tequila shot! I don’t have all the answers for you, but trust me on this one…Life IS Short!

SEPTEMBER 2011
We all start somewhere and keep getting to where we’re going!
Could you seriously imagine for a second if you were to all of a sudden today just stop challenging yourself to achieve anything from here on out? You would settle with the fact that everything is just the way it is. Whether you want more from your life or you’re pretty content with the way it is, nothing else would ever change for the remainder of your time.
Now imagine that happened 10 years ago. Could you say now that if life was the way it was at that time that you would be satisfied with it? All about your life that wasn’t there then would still not be there now.
Luckily for us, we have to ability to create our lives with expectations, desires and dreams. There is nothing you can’t overcome! There is nothing you can’t achieve!
In CrossFit, things early on can seem impossible. But the reality is that when you practice enough, get coached more so you can understand how…miracles can occur. We all remember things we once didn’t have or could not do that we have since achieved. How about when a new challenge presents itself, instead feeling self-doubt, why not remember how you’ve conquered the impossible before and that those things you have not yet done are merely a feat that you are soon to conquer?!
Think about it…Is there anything you would like to achieve that still exists as something you cannot have? I challenge you to make that a thing of your past!

AUGUST 2011
A Charge for Bacon!
I don't know about you guys and gals, but I for one and several of my coworkers will continue to proclaim the magical powers of bacon! I don't personally go too many days without it. I get frustrated by comments and claims I sometimes hear about bacon being bad for us or when somebody says they just don't like it! Com'on! Really? I call Bull on that.
Bacon is easily one of the Top 3 most delicious foods in the world! And if it's so bad for you, how come all my friends who eat packages of it every week are the leanest and have reports of the best LDL and HDL cholesterol levels of most people? Obviously, any "unhealthy” claims about this and any other high quality meat just don't make sense. This is also known as Bad Science! Yes, it does exist.
I hope I'm not speaking to any of you when I say this, but I know I very well could be....Eat Bacon, People! I promise, you will be fine.
Here is a good bacon read for you... Is Bacon Paleo? I say, does it really matter?

JULY 2011
Hellooooooo Everybody!
Wow! What a month last month was for me! I literally was in the best shape of my life going into the CrossFit Games Regional a couple weeks ago. The programming I was following included several double days, so my workout totals were hitting about 7 or 8 a week. This included run-, weightlifting- and yoga-specific workouts as well as my standard 4 MetCon workouts.
I am proud to say I couldn't have been more ready to represent CrossFit Central going into the Regional. However, the weekend smacked me down pretty hard! Turns out a 30-inch box jump proved to be one of the few things I just wasn't able to do very well, and it took a toll on me. On one of the 45 jumps we had to complete, I completely fell off the side of the box. The spill caused a deep lower back injury, and the final workout felt like a disaster because of the amount of pain I was in! The team finished a disappointing 4th place. We are definitely committed to coming back strong next year!
Two weeks later, I am finally starting to feel closer to normal! Thanks to everyone of you who have continued to share support via emails, texts, phone calls, etc! Your positive words will always inspire me to give my all back to you in every way I know how!
UPCOMING EVENTS:

AdvoCare Product Spotlight – Nighttime Recovery

JUNE 2011
Living the Possibility of Your Fitness
Lose 5% body fat, gain 10 lbs of muscle, 50 more lbs on your deadlift, 1 minute faster in your mile time, 10 more unbroken pull-ups, 5 more reps on your Tabata squat score or 2 minutes faster on your "I Am CrossFit" time...These things are all possible! But let’s be real. How could any of this stuff really happen?
Here is my spiel...If you want any of these improvements in your overall fitness then you’d better be willing to step up and make it happen! The reality is that 45 minutes two or three days a week in class is a great start and will enable you to see results in these areas, but it’s not enough to really get you where you could be.
Unassisted pull-ups and ring dips, real push ups, 20 and 14lb Wall Ball to 10 ft for 20 unbroken reps should all be in your repertoire.
If you want these things, here is a proven Wheel of Success that has been done over and over again by our most successful clients:
1) Paleo Nutrition is automatic at every sitting
2) Show up to every class you are signed up for
3) Show up or wake up early to roll out/stretch before every workout
4) Roll out/stretch again later in the day or before bed
5) Stay after class to work on pull-ups, toes to bar, push-ups, sit-ups, handstand walks/push-ups
6) Add a PT session or strength class (Strictly Strength, Olympic Lifting, Lean Lifting) 1 or 2 days a week
7) Take a shake immediately (no more than 30 minutes) after your hard workouts (25 to 35 grams Protein + Fruit)
8) Train or run on your own if you can't do extra with us! Find a classmate to work on deadlifts, back squats, etc. with. Find a school/park with monkey bars and take a KB and jump rope with you!
9) Watch videos on http://www.crossfit.com/ to learn how!
10) Stop Thinking You Can't!
Welcome to June Programs! See you there with only the best attitude you've ever had!

AdvoCare Product Spotlight – 24 Day Challenge Bundle
Many of you are aware that we recommend everybody take 7 to 10 days at least a couple times a year to give your body a chance to flush out toxic build up and scrub out the digestive tract. AdvoCare has packaged a bundle of products that allows us to do just that. I personally use AdvoCare's 10-Day Cleanse, and I am going to start it the week following the South Central CrossFit Games Regional.
If anybody would like to take this on with me, order either the 24-Day Challenge bundle or the 10-day cleanse before June 20th and let me know that you’re taking it on. Order the 24-Day Challenge here or the 10-day cleanse alone here using my AdvoCare Distributor ID#02037554. Contact me if you have any questions about which 24-Day Challenge bundle to purchase.

Motivation!
I know that I don’t have to look too deep to find that you all have a ton of this in your lives. I did however get to thinking about what really motivates me to wake up everyday and show up to do what I do in my life. I know all of you who read my blog know that my faith in Christ, and living out the best I can what I learn from scripture, is the ultimate answer.
Sometimes, pride takes over and I say that I am responsible for all of your failures and successes at the gym. I get frustrated many times when I don’t see clients show up to their sessions. I get amped up when I see full classes and people who are getting results physically.
I have made a choice about my life to impact the lives of millions of people by helping them achieve better health through training and nutrition.
I know that your motivation to continue to show up, challenge yourselves and get results will keep me wanting to come back. Without your success, I can’t honestly say I would be excited to be at the gym every morning.
Thanks for the support!
